Metro Foods, an Esmark Company, is a leading provider in the retail meat distribution market. By expanding their warehousing and distribution services, they have established delivery of high quality and competitively priced food products to retail customers nationwide.

The Challenge

Metro Foods had no organized training program. The only training they provided regularly was in-house forklift driver safety. All other safety training was often inconsistent and involved no real tracking and reporting, creating numerous inefficiencies.

To improve their training program, Metro Foods began looking at various third-party training solutions in May 2006, including creating an in-house program from scratch. According to HR and Safety Director, Scott Cain, choosing PureSafety was “an easy choice.” After viewing the PureSafety website, Mr. Cain and the management team determined that PureSafety offered targeted safety training solutions for the food industry and they “didn't spend too much additional time shopping around.”

The Solution

Metro Foods implemented PureSafety's Enterprise training solution in June 2006. The company was impressed with PureSafety's extensive online course catalog. It met their current needs and gave them room to expand their program for the future. Another key selling point for Metro Foods was their ability to customize and brand PureSafety courses. This allowed the company to cost-effectively extend the corporate brand and present company-specific information during training. Metro Foods was also excited about its ability to centralize and manage training activities for all departments from a single location. This also allowed the company to better manage the training schedule, in relation to the company's goals and needs. The scalability of the PureSafety solution was also integral to the final decision. PureSafety's Enterprise platform allows for effortless expansion as the company and workforce grows.
