Testimonial
"Without PureSafety, I wouldn't be able to deliver, track, or manage the critical OSHA required training to my 1,500 employees. Not only are we improving brand and corporate safety awareness amongst our employees, but we are also keeping training costs down by providing it online through PureSafety. My employees love the system and I love how much time the system frees up my schedule so I can focus on more important issues. I am extremely pleased with the PureSafety system and team."

The Challenge
Geographically Dispersed Employees
When Christopher Maitland, National Safety & Security Manager, joined Cricket Communications in 2003, one of his first responsibilities was to provide OSHA safety training to all 1,500 employees, in 154 locations, across 20 states. Chris realized he needed an efficient training delivery and tracking solution, while being cost effective at the same time.
Out Dated Training Solutions & Materials
Originally, Cricket Communications provided VHS tapes, DVDs and CD ROMs to their employees to deliver the essential OSHA compliance training that needed to be completed. The VHS tapes, DVDs and CD ROMs would be viewed and the employee would sign a policy form upon completion that was subsequently faxed to corporate for documentation purposes. This posed two major problems – Cricket had no way of knowing if the employee was retaining the information on the VHS tapes, DVDs or CDs and the paper trail was incredibly inefficient for the company overall.
Efficiency
Cricket realized it needed a new solution in order to keep track of all the training that was being completed, and most importantly, all the training that was not being completed. While Christopher was searching for a solution to help him with the company’s OSHA safety training, he realized that the HR department in San Diego needed a similar solution to deliver their Company New Hire Orientation and other training programs. Challenges related to Company New Hire Orientation were numerous as well:
Inflexible Solution
The Company New Hire Orientation Course was provided every Monday morning via webcast. If a new employee was hired on Tuesday, they would need to wait until the following Monday to receive their Company New Hire Orientation Course. This meant that many employees were starting their new career with Cricket without critical information on the company and related HR practices and benefits covered in the new hire orientation.
Lost Production Time
The old Company New Hire Orientation course took approximately three hours to complete via webcast. Not only would the employee spend three hours in training, but the Human Resources Representative would spend those same three hours every Monday morning taking the trainees through the course.
Out Dated Training Solutions & Materials
The Company New Hire Orientation course was developed in PowerPoint, with the Human Resources Representative reading word for word through every PowerPoint slide. The Representative had no way of knowing if the trainees were grasping the knowledge being delivered. Each employee had to also fax in their signed policy forms saying they completed the training, creating a cumbersome and manual paper trail.
The Solution
Cricket and PureSafety’s relationship began in March 2004. PureSafety assisted Cricket in creating a custom “Company New Hire Orientation” course and a 3-module Safety Series for all employees. PureSafety not only creates custom training courses for Cricket, but also delivers them through a branded version of the PureSafety Learning Management System (LMS) known as Cricket University.

The Results
Cricket’s employees began training in Cricket University in December 2004. Cricket now delivers all of their safety training, new hire orientation, and even tracks offline (classroom and hands-on) training through Cricket University. Some of the many benefits that Cricket finds in working with PureSafety include:
Flexibility and Custom Development/Customization Capabilities
Building brand awareness and a strong company culture is vital to the Cricket organization. Therefore it was critical for all of Cricket’s training to reflect the current company colors and branding. PureSafety created the Company New Hire Orientation from scratch, matching all the course slides with the company colors and overall Cricket look and feel. As part of the custom development, the PureSafety Content Development team included embedded video segments from employees, company-specific photos and lingo in order to give the training an even greater Cricket feel.
Efficient Training Delivery, Tracking, Management and Reporting Capabilities
With the PureSafety LMS, Cricket is able to efficiently and effectively deliver, manage, track, and report on all training within their organization. Instead of having trainees fax policy forms in from around the country, employees simply view their training assignments online (including any related policies) and the LMS tracks the completion status automatically. Cricket also tracks their offline classroom and hands-on training through Cricket University.
Improved Employee Knowledge & Retention
By including numerous Learning Activities and brainteasers throughout the training courses, Cricket has the ability to make sure their employees understand and grasp the information being presented. The employee can not continue their training without completing the Learning Activity Assignments placed every few slides throughout a course. This not only assures Cricket that their employees understand the material, but it also keeps the training fun and interactive.
High Employee Satisfaction & Completion Rates
Employee feedback has been extremely high regarding PureSafety training. One specific trainee sent this message...
"This is great. I have completed all the classes at the Cricket University, so when are we getting more classes? This was fun!"
Steve Dominguez, Field Technician
Cricket's current completion rates also prove how much the Cricket employees are enjoying their training. To date, Cricket employee completion rates are at 97%.
Time & Cost Savings
The Company New Hire Orientation course is now 54 minutes long versus the 3-hour program previously in place. The Human Resources Representative no longer has to spend three additional hours every week in training. No matter when a new Cricket employee is hired, they are assigned training in Cricket University within their first day on the job. Cricket is also seeing a major decrease in training and travel costs by providing it online through Cricket University – Powered by PureSafety.
