    HIPAA
    In 1996, United States Congress enacted the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, known as HIPAA. One aspect of HIPAA is titled “Administrative Simplification”. It is this portion of HIPAA that authorized the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to put out new regulations governing the use and disclosure of individually identifiable health information.
