![]() A Legacy of Caring for Employees: The Story Behind PureSafety
In 1998, Thompson Machinery Commerce Corporation, a Tennessee-based heavy equipment dealer, suffered the first and only on-the-job fatality in its 54-year history. Thompson had formal safety programs and dedicated safety resources, but senior management, devastated by the accident, knew they had a responsibility to do more to improve its programs and prevent another tragedy. They set out to create a more systematic method of delivering, tracking and managing the company’s safety training programs using the Internet and other emerging technologies – all while improving training quality and effectiveness. Out of tragedy, PureSafety was born. What started as an internal training management tool for Thompson and other heavy equipment dealers soon demonstrated its value in many industries. In April 1999, PureSafety became an independent company and has been expanding its presence in the industry ever since.
